Tip Jar Update

I have decided to remove the blog tip jar known as Top Spots. I have done this based on my desire to not ask for money. Basically, I feel the concept is not necessary (and somewhat unattractive) for this blog. I have replaced it with a single AdSense block for now. I am considering offering that spot for a monthly fee, but that will come sometime in the future when this blog becomes more popular.

Five Simple Steps To Increase Your Blog Traffic Today!

Practically everyone knows the best way to increase your website or blog traffic is through SEO or search engine optimization. By using the proper keywords in your title, description, and other meta tags you can greatly increase your sites value with search engine web crawlers and bots. However, this can take significant time to begin to show results. In addition, if you are paying another company or individual for this service, it can be quite costly.

So how do we drive targeted traffic to our sites in a short amount of time with the least amount of monetary input? After reading several articles and tips, here are the five ways I think are the most effective (in no particular order):

Free Ad Share Networks
One of the best examples of this is AdGridwork.com. This service uses the same principle as other text based advertising in that relevant ads appear on relevant sites. It does not generate huge amounts of traffic, but the visitors are highly targeted.

Office Emails
We have all seen them. They may be jokes, videos, or inspiring stories but they can create a flood of traffic. Simply insert one or more links to your site at the top or bottom of the message (after deleting all the other unnecessary information first). Forward this on to as many friends as you normally do and there is a chance for some major traffic by the time the email finally stops circulating.

Business Cards
There are a number of sites offering free business cards these days. Simply do a search for 'free business cards' and pick the service of your choice. Place your site name and a short blurb on the card during ordering. When the cards arrive, give them to friends or leave a few in office lunchrooms, cafeterias, or near check stands at grocery stores (with permission, of course).

Email Signature Lines
Configure your email signature to include a link to and a blurb about your website. Every time you send an email to anyone, you are advertising your site.

Join a Forum Related to Your Topic
There are millions of forums on the internet today. As an example, if your site is about planets, you could do a search for astronomy forums. Begin posting and sharing your ideas. Each time you post you can leave your link there as well. Be careful with overdoing this method. You do not want to be accused of spamming the forum. Just take an avid interest in the topic and this will work wonders for your site or blog.

Many other free traffic methods exist. By following even one example from this list your traffic will increase over time. If you perform all of the examples above you will be surprised at the amount of traffic you can generate for your site. And remember, this traffic will be targeted and cost much less than paid advertisements.

Blog Tip Jars?

I recently came upon an idea that is not new but has been given a new twist. It's the old fashioned tip jar.

We've all seen the "donate" or "buy me a beer/coffee/soda/etc." buttons on various blogs. These are a clever way of raising a few bucks from your readers. The new twist, as you can see at the top of my sidebar, involves the donor actually receiving something in return in the form of a text link.

The service offering these widgets is Scratch Back. Scratch Back allows you to set the number of spaces in your Top Spots. You also decide how much each will cost. The minimum is $1.00. During beta testing you will receive 90% of the money paid to you. There is a $25 minimum payout and payments are only made through PayPal. New additions to your list can be moved to the top with the bottom being bumped off. Alternatively, you can set each to run for 1, 7, or 30 days in your list.

Who's Behind This?JFK Services, LLC is company owned by long-time online marketer and blogger Jim Kukral. Google Jim for hundreds of pages of information, or visit Jim's blog. Scratchback is powered through Rackspace servers.

A position in my list can be had for a mere $1.00 charge. Tips anyone?

A Double Digit Day!

10

Today I reached double digits with this blog. No, I don't mean daily income in dollars. I'm talking about subscribers to my feed. According to Feedburner, as of today I am a 10! This may not seem like much to some of you, but for me it is a great milestone. I realize that tomorrow I could easily be down to 9 or less, but today I feel pretty good that a few people are reading what I have to say.

I have read numerous posts from others that recommend not putting your feed stats on your blog until you have reached 100 or more. (Just think how ecstatic I'll be then!) However, I don't log into Feedburner that often. Having the icon where I can see it every morning is an inspiration for me.

Thanks to those who are reading this.

One more thing.....have you subscribed yet?

November Earnings Report

Well, it's time to disclose my November earnings from my online income project. Remember, my initial goal is to make $200 by January 1. Here are the results:

Fusion Cash $26.00
Text Ads $3.09

Total $29.09

As you can see, I have quite a bit of money to make this month to reach my goal. I have some new ideas for this month including starting a website about my favorite animal - the goat. We have three goats now and love raising them. My new site, http://www.yourgoats.com/, is a reference site composed of articles about all aspects of goats. I started this project a week ago. I have placed Adsense ads as well as Amazon links on this site. I'll keep you posted.

By the way, has anyone tried Review Back yet? I have signed up with their blog review service but haven't had any exchanges offered or accepted. If you are a member, please consider exchanging reviews with me. I would appreciated your help.
